What we do

Representing Madrasahs

One of the core roles AMSS plays is to represent the interest Muslim schools within the education sphere including the Department for Education and other statutory bodies. An important aspect of this role involves participation in consultation forums on policy changes and the dissemination of information to our members. AMSS also makes written submission where appropriate to consultations on education policy changes, particularly those that impact on Muslim supplementary schools and Islamic education.

 

 

Training & Development workshops

AMSS provides a range of training and workshops (INSET) for teaching and non-teaching staff throughout the year at subsidised rates for its members. Training is largely delivered on a regional basis (South, Midlands and northern Hub) which takes account of, and reflects the particular needs of the collective of supplementary schools. Training themes are aimed at improving teaching and learning, improving leadership, meeting newly introduced regulatory and other operational requirements. Training events provide important opportunities for our family of schools to share effective strategies and best practice.

 

 

Regional Training Days (INSET)

In addition to the workshops, regional training days are arranged in the South, Midlands and Northern hub where a wide range of training sessions are arranged on the same day for teachers and leaders. This also provides an important networking opportunity for staff from different supplementary schools.

 

 

AMS UK National School Leadership Conference

With the view to enhancing leadership capacity, this annual event focuses on leadership development within Muslim supplementary schools and provides a vital platform for school leaders to network and share best practice. Attendees at this event include madrasah managers, trustees and where applicable governors.

 

Vision

Support Programmes

Qualified Teacher Status (QTLS) Programme in collaboration with Exon College

AMSS provides a unique and tailored support programme for experienced teachers who are looking to gain QTLS status through Diploma in Education awarded by city and guilds.

 

 

Development and Management of Supplementary Schools.

School leaders from member schools can benefit from the NRSE accredited course run regionally for members.

 

 

Madrasah Improvement Programme

AMSS members are able to access MIP on the basis of need, where a madrasah is deemed inadequate or has serious weaknesses. SIP provides a bespoke and customised level of support from experienced madrasah improvement consultants.

 

 

Quality Framework for Supplementary Education

On the basis of need members can access the support to register with NRSE quality framework as well as ofsted voluntary registration. The focus is very much on ensuring regulatory compliance but others aspects can also be focused on if deemed as requirements.

 

 

 

 

Our Vision is to provide tools and strategies for the empowerment of the madrasahs to become centres of excellence in teaching and tarbiyyah.

Mission

  • Ensure that the views and interests of Muslim supplementary schools and Islamic education are accurately and effectively represented with statutory bodies, educational organisations and within the public sphere.

 

  • Promote, and enhance effective collaboration between madrasahs with the view to raising educational standards and nurturing excellence in the Islamic character of their students.

 

  • Provide advice and assistance to members as well as others who may wish to establish new Islamic supplementary schools.

 

  • Encourage and promote education and schooling that is rooted in the Islamic or Qur’anic paradigm through the establishment of new schools and development of teaching resources that facilitate this.

 

  • Provide a forum for discussion and unity amongst those who are interested in Islamic education and Muslim educators in particular.

 

  • Provide a range of training and development opportunities for Muslim educators to enhance their knowledge and skills as professionals and to become Islamic role models for their students.

 

  • To promote better understanding and positive relationships between difference faith and cultural traditions within the UK and encourage the creation of a harmonious and cohesive society that is based on principles of mutual respect and justice for all citizens.
